Why we do what we do :)

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves to you. If you watch the videos, you might get an idea of what the website is all about (yes, it’s about cooking)…but there’s more to it.

The website was launched from our love of cooking. Christopher (the hubby) and Jacinda (the wife) have been blessed with 4 beautiful kids: Ian (15), Zach (10), Olivia (10), and Phoebe (2)–and Rusty (our 9 yr-old chocolate lab). They are our children and our taste testers (Rusty included).  We are also total foodies and devour cooking shows–enlarging our knowledge of food and gaining new insight regarding recipes and food preparation. Some of our favorite shows are: Top Chef, The Next Food Network Star, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef (with Ann Burrell), Good Eats (with Alton Brown), and Barefoot Contessa (with Ina Garten).

I am an RN by degree and a stay-at-home mom by profession. Being home all day gives me the luxury of having a bit more time to cook and plan our meals (some days more than others) Smile  Having that luxury, Chris and I collaberated to create this site containing recipes that are kid-friendly (if my kids will eat them-yours most likely will, too) and family-friendly (something for everyone). They are, on average, simple to prepare and don’t require crazy ingredients that you will have to drive all over town to find. There are some that require more work, but that is the fun of cooking—giving yourself a challenge every now and then.  I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian (I eat eggs and dairy but nothing that “had eyes and a mother”) and Chris and the kids eat everything. This can pose a challenge, but after 15 years, I’ve gotten over that hurdle and can prepare meals that satisfy all of us without a lot of extra effort. These things are reflected in our recipes, blogs, and videos.  You will see headings for “Tip of the Day”, “Blog”, “Vegetarian”, and various other headings for the rest of the recipes.

Chris is brilliant in the kitchen as well as in his daytime role of CEO at a successful company. He is the brains behind the website itself (he is a braniac computer guy)…I joke that I married a really hot computer geek—and it’s true…yeah, me! Smile Many women joke that their husbands don’t know how to boil water…I can’t say that. In fact, you will see many videos and recipes posted by Chris that demonstrate his mad skills in the kitchen. One of my favorites is his Asparagus Soup…Yum! Cooking together is something every couple should give a go at…you might be surprised at how fun it is. Of course, Chris likes to turn everything into a competition (men!) Smile, and this has resulted in our annual Christmas party where we each create half of the menu items and see who likes what best. It’s a riot! We’ve come up with some really tasty treats this way and look forward to it every year.

Please feel free to leave your comments, suggestions, and feedback for the recipes in the spaces provided at the end of every entry. We hope you enjoy our website and feel the love behind our postings. Visit our Facebook Page under “MyCookingShow” and interact with us on our wall with questions, comments, or food-related “stuff”.

As we’ve all experienced, when having a get together most guests end up in the….kitchen, right? So, have fun creating memories in your kitchen and around your tables and perhaps our recipes will help make things easier and more effortless. Eating dinner as a family and with friends will create lasting memories and traditions to pass down through the generations.

Your fellow foodies,

Chris and Jacinda Ross
